Batteries produce much heat while charging and discharging; the heat is even more if the batteries are together. One of the reasons of battery deterioration or low battery life is high temperatures; it is even advised to put batteries in the fridge due to overheating; but this may damage them, due to freezing. PCMs are the best way to solve these issues since they absorb the heat from the battery and make it cooler by changing phase to liquid.
